Kevin: We were looking for a place to go eat lunch and at first went to Carrabba's Italian Grill, but realized upon arriving that it was only open for dinner. So after a few minutes of thought I recommended Waffle House. Now I was a bit apprehensive of bringing my awesome wife to Waffle House, the definition of a “Greasy Spoon Diner”, but I gave it a shot. When we got there we sat at the counter. A nice waitress with the name tag that read “salespersons” took our order. I had a Bacon Texas Cheesesteak Melt. It came with hash browns which I ordered “Covered and Topped” (With Chili and melted cheese). It was awesome…just like I remembered. It is odd to eat hash browns with a patty melt, but it is outstanding at Waffle House. The hash browns were crispy and cooked just right. The chili and cheese was the perfect complement. We also ordered one waffle, just so Aimee could taste it. The waffle was light and a little sweet. It was like I remembered. The food is the next best thing to a great New York diner
AIMEE: Okay, I’ll admit it. I was a little nervous when we pulled up at the Waffle House. Kevin told me it was an ‘old southern favorite’ of his. It looked ‘old’ like the building and its signage had been around 50+ years, which is good because it shows they’re still alive and kickin’. We got in, as Kevin said, we sat at the counter. The inside was pretty small, there was maybe 10 booths and another 10-12 seats at the counter. This really funny, older, southern lady who I think said she had been there since Midnight served us and she told us we were her last table for the day. She was a little loopy and I couldn’t blame her, a woman who had to be in her mind 60’s working 12 hours a day? Holy crap. Anyway, we checked out the menu which I though was a little limited. I kept it simple and I got a patty melt with cheese and I think it also had bacon on it. The waitress took our order and pretty much insisted we get a waffle because, hello! We were at WAFFLE HOUSE afterall. LOL. So we got 1 waffle so we could try it…or so I could try it anyway, Kevin’s had them before. The food was good, the waffle was sweeter than any waffle I’ve ever had before… it was pretty good! Overall we had a great meal for very little money and left smiling
