Texas Roadhouse

Kevin:  Aimee and I went to Texas Roadhouse on Thursday.  It is a place Aimee wanted to visit.  She wanted to have a good steak and it was recommended by one of our best friends.  When we arrived around 7pm, there was a bit of a wait, about 15 minutes.  They gave us a the restaurant “pager” and we sat outside.  We hung out and listened to country music…which is not my favorite genre, but it was lively.  They had peanuts to eat, but we didn’t eat any of them, in fear of spoiling our dinner.
We were seated in bout 10 minutes.  I had sweet tea and I think she had water.  We ordered a “Cactus Blossom” for our appetizer.  It is extremely similar to Outback’s Blooming Onion.  It was tasty, but a little too greasy for me.  I had a 10oz. Ft. Worth Ribeye Steak with Sautéed Mushrooms (with 6 yummy grilled shrimp!).  I was pleasantly surprised with my steak.  It was slightly overcooked (I have not found a steakhouse that can properly cook a steak to medium rare, it is always overdone), but it had great flavor.  It was too much to finish in one sitting, so I took it home for steak and eggs in the morning.  It was a fun time at the Roadhouse.

AIMEE:   As Kev said, I was told by my friend Rachael that we HAD to try Texas Road House so it was on our list of places to try while we were down south for our week of vacation.  The seating was a little too confining and close for my taste. We sat at a table for 2 and there was like a foot and a half of room between our table & the booth next to us for the waitstaff or diners to pass through. The place was definitely well staffed and our waitress was really upbeat and helpful. I liked the Cactus blossom, it was a lot less spicy than the Bloomin’ Onion from Outback Steakhouse, and I was glad for that. I don’t really like spicy stuff.  For my entrée, I really wanted steak after a week of fried shrimp, Smile with tongue out    So I got an 8oz USDA Choice Sirloin and I added a ‘sidekick’ (side order) of grilled shrimp. Both proteins were great but the flavoring of that shrimp in particular was outstanding! I also had a sweet potato with honey/cinnamon butter which had a sweet, rich taste – totally sinful but I loved every bite of it!  The rolls were warm and delish and they were also served with that honey/cinnamon butter, sooo good.  Again, the staff was great and I thought it was nice that there were lots of families around and there was even a guy going around to the tables with children and making balloon animals for them. At the end of the meal, we opted out of dessert because we were so full.  But overall, a very good experience at Texas Roadhouse!

Krispy Kreme – The Best Doughnut I EVER Had!!!

Kevin:  We just left Sci-Fi City in Orlando and I still had the urge for Krispy Kreme.   I have had a longing for it for months before coming, but it got 100 times worse once I knew I was a short drive to one. Aimee and I attempted to find one on the way back from St. Petersburg, but ended up getting lost and delaying our return to home by a half hour. Well I used my Hot Light App on my Smartphone and located a spot only 10 minutes away.  We drove over and as we were walking in, we see the backroom through the glass and dozens of fresh doughnuts being made.  They were being fried, then guided over to a waterfall of heavenly glaze.  The person at the counter offered us fresh doughnuts off the line and we were happy to accept.  We bought a dozen and we took them to our car.  We wanted to try one hot off of the line.  We took a bite….I needed a moment of silence to savor the experience called Krispy Kreme.  It was the BEST doughnut I ever had.  Eating it right off of the line was a big bonus.  It is a shame there is not one nearby…they would get my business once a week at least.  Hot doughnuts are the best doughnuts!

Aimee:  Never having had it before but always hearing about it on TV or from friends (or my hubby) and I was totally stoked to finally be able to try Krispy Kreme for myself!   As Kevin said, we walked in, saw the assembly line of toasty brown doughnuts steaming up the glass enclosure, I thought I was in heaven.  I'm not a huge cake-food person like my best friend and supergirls partner in crime Rachael, but I like doughnut from time to time.  This was most definitely, hands down the best doughnut I have ever had.  I hear there is a Krispy Kreme shop at Penn Station....I feel a trip coming on..................  hahah nah.  Well, maybe. ;)

Waffle House – The Greasy Spoon that I will taste again

Kevin: We were looking for a place to go eat lunch and at first went to Carrabba's Italian Grill, but realized upon arriving that it was only open for dinner.  So after a few minutes of thought I recommended Waffle House.  Now I was a bit apprehensive of bringing my awesome wife to Waffle House, the definition of a “Greasy Spoon Diner”, but I gave it a shot. When we got there we sat at the counter.  A nice waitress with the name tag that read “salespersons” took our order.  I had a Bacon Texas Cheesesteak Melt.  It came with hash browns which I ordered “Covered and Topped” (With Chili and melted cheese).  It was awesome…just like I remembered.  It is odd to eat hash browns with a patty melt, but it is outstanding at Waffle House.  The hash browns were crispy and cooked just right.  The chili and cheese was the perfect complement.  We also ordered one waffle, just so Aimee could taste it.  The waffle was light and a little sweet.  It was like I remembered.  The food is the next best thing to a great New York diner

IMAG0148IMAG0150

AIMEE:  Okay, I’ll admit it. I was a little nervous when we pulled up at the Waffle House. Kevin told me it was an ‘old southern favorite’ of his.  It looked ‘old’ like the building and its signage had been around 50+ years, which is good because it shows they’re still alive and kickin’.  We got in, as Kevin said, we sat at the counter. The inside was pretty small, there was maybe 10 booths and another 10-12 seats at the counter.  This really funny, older, southern lady who I think said she had been there since Midnight served us and she told us we were her last table for the day.  She was a little loopy and I couldn’t blame her, a woman who had to be in her mind 60’s working 12 hours a day?  Holy crap.  Anyway, we checked out the menu which I though was a little limited.  I kept it simple and I got a patty melt with cheese and I think it also had bacon on it.  The waitress took our order and pretty much insisted we get a waffle because, hello! We were at WAFFLE HOUSE afterall. LOL.  So we got 1 waffle so we could try it…or so I could try it anyway, Kevin’s had them before.  The food was good, the waffle was sweeter than any waffle I’ve ever had before… it was pretty good!  Overall we had a great meal for very little money and left smiling Smile

Sea Hags Seafood, Saint Pete Beach, FL

AIMEE: Sea Hags Seafood in Saint Pete Beach, was okay. I wasn’t looking to spend a lot of money. We were mostly there for the company. We went with Kevin’s best friend Scott and his wife Autumn and we met up with their friend Pete who Kevin hasn’t seen in a while. It was good to spend time with friends and the view was pretty spectacular from the glass french doors that we were seated near. Both Autumn and I got the fried shrimp bucket (this was like my 2nd time having fried shrimp on this trip…seeing a trend? LOL). Sometimes when I get overwhelmed by a menu, its my old standby. It was okay, nothing spectacular or different about it. It came with fries. There was live music, and even though we weren’t up close to the bar where the music was, we could hear it without it being overpowering, so I appreciated that. Would I go here again? Only if we were going to be in the presence of great people again, otherwise, I could pass on it.

IMAG0140 IMAG0144

Kevin - As my wife said, we went here with a few good friends of ours.  They said that they had good food and good music. From first impression, I get the local hangout vibe, which is good, because that usually means the food is good.  I ordered fried calamari for an appetizer.  It was very good and the marinara sauce was tasty. I had the fried Grouper for dinner.  I was slightly apprehensive at first, since a have seen a live grouper about 9 hours prior at the Florida Aquarium.  It tasted wonderful.  Meaty and flavorful.  I could not finish the whole thing (especially since I ate calamari earlier).  The food was good, but not something that would make me come back right away.

The reason I am so fickle in Florida about seafood is because there are a TON of seafood places there.  They all cook very similar things, so I need to be really impressed before calling a place tops in my book.

Domo Arigato, Give me Rollbotto!!!

Kevin:  My wife Aimee & I went to visit my one of my best friends Scott and his wife Autumn in St. Petersburg, Florida.  After a great morning at The Florida Aquarium, we went to pick up Scott from college and decided to go for lunch.  They had a few suggestions, but the one that stuck out for me was Rollbotto Sushi.  I love sushi, and I was told they had choices for folks that don’t like sushi (Scott is allergic to seafood and Aimee doesn’t like raw fish).  I thought it was a great idea.  So we headed to Rollbotto Sushi.  It is located on the east side of St. Petersburg Downtown BayWalk (Now called The Shops at St. Pete).  Upon first glance at the place, you see the light metal chairs and the Subway-esque food service line and think “what in the hell did I agree to?”  But after a minute of thought, I see that it is genius!  The menu has about a dozen different rolls that are standard fare, or you can customize your roll and pay al a carte.  The average price is around $6.50 which is not bad for fresh sushi.  You can even have your sushi in a bowl.
I chose to make a roll with Yellow Tail, Salmon, and white rice wrapped in traditional seaweed (Nori).  I added cucumber, avocado, and green onion.  For texture I also added sesame seed and Tempura chips.  For garnish and flavor I added eel sauce. (Not sure if actual eel is in the sauce).

My Sushi Roll at Rollbotto Sushi
Kevin's sushi roll at Rollbotto Sushi

The roll was amazing!  So fresh and cold, two things that are good factors in sushi in my eyes.  All the flavors were distinct and the eel sauce did not overshadow the fish.
After eating the sushi roll I had a bit of mochi ice cream.  It is great tasting dessert.  It is cold, sweet, and chewy.  Upon my first bite, my mouth was confused.
Mochi Ice Cream
Mochi Ice Cream

I tasted the thin layer of cornstarch to keep the balls separated in the freezer. Then I bit through the rice dough layer.  It was not as cold as expected, but it was chewy.  Then I reached the strawberry ice cream center.  It was very cold and tasty.  The flavor of the ice cream was not spectacular, but in the way it was served, it was perfect.  It worked completely.  Next time I am in St. Pete, I will be heading to Rollbotto Sushi for lunch.  Great food served right, without breaking the bank!

AIMEE:  First of all, I HATE SUSHI.  I don’t like fish and even if I liked fish, I would never eat it RAW – yuck!!  When Autumn & Scott told us about this place I was like.. WHAT?!  And even though they swore there would be something I could eat here, I was extremely skeptical/. Trying to roll with the punches, we agreed to go.  I made my own sushi roll with soy paper (basically tasteless because the thought of Nori/seaweed scared my plain-jane taste buds).  I had white rice, teriyaki chicken, carrots, cucumbers and tempura chips for some crunchy texture.  I opted out of the ‘eel sauce’ because being a sushi joint, I kinda figured it was made of real eel – LOL – upon further inspection of Kevin’s sushi roll, I think its just a funky name for some kind of sweet soy sauce based garnish.   I ate my entire sushi roll and loved every bite.  The Strawberry Mochi (rice ice cream) was very good too. It was chewy and oddly dry on the outside but soft and creamy on the inside.  I really enjoyed this place, 100%.  Wish there was one in NY!

Texas De Brazil – in Orlando, FL

Kevin: We went here around 5 pm for our anniversary.  We decided to go here because we have been here before (in Yonkers, NY) and we had a “buy one meal, get one free” coupon.  Upon arrival we were seated promptly (We had a reservation and they just opened for dinner service).  Our server, Eve, was great.  she is focused on our needs and was fast.  The salad bar, which included rice, Brazilian black beans, a variety of cold cuts (Prosciutto, salami, ham, etc.), sushi, lots of different salads and dressings.  The salad bar was a meal in itself…but it is a clever distraction away from the star of the meal…the meat.  Gauchos roam the dining hall offering various cuts of meat.  Top sirloin, Brazilian sausage, lamb, Parmesan crusted chicken, pork tenderloin, the list goes on and on.  And the way to control the action:

IMAG0341

Green is for go, and flip for red to stop the action.  They will even cook the meat to your liking.  I love my meat medium rare, the standard of the restaurant.  Aimee likes it more well done, so the server made sure Aimee’s food was cooked to her liking.  It was an amazing experience.

It was so much better than Yonkers.  The food was just as god, but the service was much better in Orlando.  When we visit Orlando again (next year, maybe?), I hope to returnIMAG0340

Brazilian sausage,  spare ribs, lamb and some fried plantains.

AIMEE:  It’s times like this when I wish I could eat more than a few ounces at a time!  I love this place..and I’m not even a real meat eater.  The salad bar is unbelievable… cucumber salad, tomato salad, mushrooms, bacon, romaine lettuce, baby spinach, and a bunch of others. Not to mention asparagus, cheeses, salami, etc.  Mostly basic but very good dressings.  They also have Brazilian black beans, lobster bisque and rice as part of the salad bar.  You could go up a few times just for the salad bar and it might even be worth the $50/pp just for that!  Alas, when you flip over your little disk to the GREEN side, the gauchos know that means GO and they bring on wave after wave of delicious meats.  My favorite is the top sirloin, medium well. It’s so friggen good!  In fact going to Texas De Brazil for the first time back in July for Rachael’s birthday actually inspired me to go to Trader Joes (and then later, Sams for better prices) to get Top Sirloin and cook it at home. I LOVE IT!  I also liked the parmesan pork this time, which was kind of dry at the Yonkers location.  We didn’t eat dessert this time at the Orlando location because we were WAY TOO FULL.  Our waitress was wonderful and I’m not just comparing her to the last waitress at Yonkers.  She was on her game from the second she sat us.  She was accommodating, kind and basically at our whim.  Needless to say, we tipped her as though we were actually spending $100 and we gave her a nice 20% tip.  She was by far the best waitress/server we’ve ever had, anywhere.  Great place if you have the extra money, but do yourself a favor, if you go to the Yonkers location and a young lady introduces herself to you as “Your server, Dominique” I’d ask for another server.. she’s a snot rag!  Other than that, I hope you go to Texas De Brazil and enjoy it like we did. Smile

Dinner at Golden Corral

KEVIN: Well…Aimee and I were in Orlando, enjoying a fun evening at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. After touring the museum, we decided to get dinner at Golden Corral, a local buffet nearby.  There are many locations around the area, but I always loved going there, because they always had something that I would enjoy to eat.  Aimee had never gone to the restaurant before, but hearing me talk about it peaked her interest. So we set the GPS and headed to Golden Corral.  Upon walking in, we were greeted with a cafeteria-type line.  We were offered a drink and we paid for our food in advance. We walked into the main room and there was a huge spread of food.

IMAG0335IMAG0336

They have a little bit of everything, from southern, to Asian, to Italian.  Aimee and I ate some pot roast and potatoes and were about to consider eating dessert until…

We had a little visitor.  I gently told my wife about it and we left quickly.   I am not sure if it came in from outside, or if it is a regular….it did not matter to me.  We were outta there!
Note to Self:  NEVER AGAIN!!!

AIMEE:  We had a really great time at Ripley's Believe it or Not, thanks to my husbands spontaneity :)  When we got out of the museum tour it was kind of late and we hadn't had dinner.  We were on the hunt for something quick but yummy and we passed a Golden Corral. Kevin had originally wanted to go there for breakfast because he liked that type of food there the best, but we knew it was quick and he had been there before he knew the price was right as well.  As Kevin said, they have lots of locations, but since we were in Orlando and it was already 9pm-ish, we decided to go to the one that was just a few miles from the museum.  We walked in, it was busy, lots of folks having late dinner.  We found a table, oddly (and turns out, LUCKY) enough on the other side of the wall from the exit.  We wandered over to the hot food and Kevin said their pot roast was good, so I tried a little piece of that, some mashed (both white and sweet) potatoes, some corn and some hush puppies. Everywhere we go, where there is hush puppies, I must try them.  We went back to the table and that's when Kevin spotted the infamous yeast rolls that he's talked about many times before. He grabbed 2 of them and some honey butter which turned out, had amazing flavor.  Everything on my plate was good but of course I had taken too much food and could not finish.

the potatoes might've needed some salt but I decided against adding it.  The yeast rolls were, in fact, delicious.  The 'server' if you can call her that, did come around and said to just call on her if we needed anything. I still haven't figured out what the point of a server is in a cafeteria-style buffet restaurant, but, we didn't even get the chance to tip her because suddenly Kevin smacked the table.  I looked up wondering what the issue was and I made a face at him. He answered all too calmly with a whisper, "There was something crawling on the table."  With wide eyes, I quickly pushed my chair back away from table and said "Where?!"  He pointed and there I saw it... a roachy-type bug.  I grabbed my bag and he said "Let's go!"  and I literally jogged around the wall and through the exit door so fast, I don't think anyone even saw us leave.  I did my best to push the roach out of my mind because I knew if I thought about it too much, I'd make myself sick.  As it was, Kevin was super grossed out and I thought he would throw up.   Kevin is right when he says...NEVER AGAIN!

Oakwood Smokehouse – Florida BBQ at its best!

KEVIN:  Aimee and I went to Oakwood Smokehouse shortly after arriving in Florida.  We met a few friends for lunch.  Scott knew that living in New York gave very little opportunities to eat real southern BBQ. We met Scott and Jeremy at the restaurant and when we entered we were promptly seated. The young waiter, I think was named Michael, served us.  He was very laid back and talked with a slow southern drawl.  It kind of made me feel more at home, since I do miss Florida.  I had the special and Aimee had fried shrimp with hush puppies.  I drank sweet tea…and I do mean SWEET!  A better name for the drink should of been Tea Syrup.  I am not complaining…I was in a BBQ joint after all.  Southern BBQ at that!  The ribs were fall off the bone tender, the sliced pork was juicy and the sides were tasty.  The sweet and tangy BBQ sauce served on the side was great.  It was a Memphis-style BBQ sauce.  I enjoyed every bite of it.  Here is a pic of the carnage, mid-meal.

IMAG0299

AIMEE:  Kevin had been talking about Oakwood for the few days leading up to the trip and he was extra excited to go because he swears he hasn’t had ‘good’ BBQ since he left Florida.  We’ve tried a few BBQ places around here but it’s just not the same for him.  I’m not a real BBQ connoisseur but I planned on being a good sport and ordering some kind of messy bbq with the guys.  When we were seated by our waiter (who was extremely friendly and very laid back) the guys knew EXACTLY what they wanted within a minute or two and I felt pressured to order. Me, being totally BBQ-Clueless I spotted my old standby ‘Fried shrimp’ and went with that.  I didn’t want to order BBQ and end up hating it and wasting money so the shrimp may have been a cop-out but it was a tasty, worth-my-money meal either way!  My meal came with 2 sides so I ordered the mac & cheese and of course corn fritters..  Yes, everywhere I go where they are offered, I get those hush puppies or corn fritters.  These were DEEEEE-LISH!  Even dusted, evilly so, with powdered sugar.  Yeah, maybe the shrimp was just the same ol’ fried shrimp you can get anywhere, but the corn fritters were to die for.  I could have done without the mac & cheese, it was pretty average.  Overall, if it were local, I’d go there again! We both would Smile

Pre-Flight Meal

KEVIN:   Well...Aimee and I had to leave really, really early from home (330am) to head to the airport to leave for Florida for vacation. We hadn't eaten anything since dinner the night before and we were both feeling hungry.  We decided to make a stop at the Au Bon Pain located inside the LaGuardia airport.  Not as expected. Had a sausage, egg,and cheese on an asiago bagel.  Looks better than it tastes!  Note to self:  Wait for sandwich counter to open,  Don't eat a sandwich i that's been sitting god knows how long in the hotbox.

AIMEE:  I was really nervous the Saturday we left for vacation.  It had been 2 yrs since we'd flown and a lot has happened in life since then. I think my nerves were just shot and I had the jitters all day the day before as well. I didn't want to eat anything major til we got to Florida but the truth was, I had some big time tummy rumbles and needed to eat a little something before we took off.  It was approx. 4-430am on Saturday 9/22. We had checked our bags and gotten through security pretty quickly and headed to find some breakfast.  We stopped at Au Bon Pain which I hadn't had before.  Susan used to be the manager of one so I had heard about them but never eaten there.  It was too early for the sandwich counter to be open so they directed us to an area where there was mostly pre-made items.  Kevin asked if I wanted a sausage, egg and cheese on an Asiago bagel. I shrugged, it being too early to know my name, let alone what I wanted to eat. I just wanted my stomach to calm down so I shook my head yes.  He waited in the all-too-long line to pay for the food and I went to get a table.  When we were both seated we agreed we had to take pictures of everything we ate on our trip (especially new foods/places) so we could update our blog.  I immediately took out my camera but unfortunately I dont have the photo of the completely overdone rubberized hot box'd egg because we had to reset my phone and I ended up losing some photos. But that was one rubbery-assed egg!  I took one bite, wrapped it up and ended up tossing it out.  It was a very expensive sandwich to boot, at almost $7/each!  I wont be eating there again..and You can take that to the bank!

It’s Chili Night in the Ellis House!!!

Hello everyone,

I got home late from work today, trying to help last minute clients before going on vacation (I am booked solid until then).  I was kinda tired, but we had ground beef thawing in the fridge, I decided to make some chili….Chili Cheese Nachos!

Not too complicated.

1. Make Chili

2. Dish it out over tortilla chips and sprinkle cheddar cheese on top

3. Place in oven and broil for 2-4 minutes, just to melt cheese

4. Devour!

A quick tasty dinner!

Carrot Cake Ring? Yes please!

Hi everyone,

Aimee asked me to make a cake for a bake sale at her job on Thursday. I found a great recipe for carrot cake online and I made it a few times and it turned out really delicious.  I figured I would share it with you.  Here is the Direct link to original recipe.  I made a few small changes to mine, for a little more flavor.

Carrot Cake Ring - Modified

2 c. flour
1 1/4 c. veg. oil
1 c. packed brown sugar
3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 of 6 oz. can frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed)
4 eggs
2 c. shredded carrots
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. dried cranberries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 10 inch bundt pan.Into large bowl, mix first 13 ingredients at low speed with mixer. Beat at high speed for 4 minutes. With spatula, fold in carrots, walnuts and raisins.

Pour into prepared bundt pan. Bake 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes - remove from pan. Sprinkle cake with confectioners' sugar.

This cake is so moist and delicious! I do not use confectioners sugar, but that is a personal preference.  I love carrot cake and it is one of the only carrot cakes where I can actually see carrots in the cake.  Right now it is after 11pm, so I am sure the Mrs. will let everyone know how it is...especially since I made a cake for her, with no raisins.  I doubled the cranberries in the cake to compensate.  I am sure she will enjoy it!

Wild, wild wings.

Last weekend, for Kevin's birthday we decided to try someplace new for lunch.  Kevin had been saying he'd like to try Buffalo Wild Wings in nearby Danbury, CT but we just never got around to it, until that particular afternoon.

I'm not a sports-event-type-girl and Kevin, other than Wrestling and some football, isn't that kind of guy, either.  So I figured I was going to have to , 'Take one for the team' so to speak (pun intended!) when we walked into this place.  My first impression was that it was a bit dark, the music was a little loud and there were TONS of flat screen TV's everywhere, this was going to be lunch in a giant man cave.

I am happy to report that other than 1 little blip Kevin's birthday lunch was a great time!

Our waitress, who reminded me a lot of P!NK (the singer) helped Kevin choose a delicious beer from the extensive list & even offered to get him a sample before he actually choose it.  I ordered a Cherry Limeade which was very refreshing.  The moment I set eyes on the menu, we swiftly ordered our Hot Pretzels w/spicy cheese dip appetizer.  I'm a sucker for hot pretzels.  Kevin decided on wings, of course.  I was a little skeptical because of the surgery we've had, the wings tend to not agree with him, but it was his birthday and I wanted him to get whatever he wanted.  I was having a hard time making a decision, but we both wanted to keep it simple, inexpensive & a little on the lite side, as we were supposed to go out to dinner that evening as well.  The flat bread pizza's caught my eye.  There were 3 different types, but the Garlic Chicken Parmesan flat bread sounded the best.

The pretzels were amazing, but the cheese sauce had one helluva kick so I stayed away from that. I don't really like TOO spicy, anything.  Kevin seemed to like it though.  While we waited we watched any number of sporting events on the TVs all around us. There was golf, tennis, football, NASCAR, etc. And then Kevin noticed some of the TVs had interactive Trivia if you download an APP on your smartphone. So, being the computer geek that he is, he immediately asked the Waitress about the app. She gave him the necessary info and also brought over an electronic device (in case you don't have a smartphone) that you could play the trivia on.  You just create a login & password and a user name and you can play with anyone else in the restaurant who is playing. We both really enjoyed that.  So even if you go here with your significant other who doesn't like sports, there is something to do that doesn't necessarily involve football, baseball, etc.  It was pretty cool!

Soon, our lunches arrived. Kevin said his wings were great and his beer was very flavorful and he really enjoyed both.

My flat bread pizza was okay, but I definitely detected some serious spice upon my first bite.  I ordered water and ranch dressing as soon as I saw our waitress.  I was surprised at the amount of heat coming out of that pizza since there was nothing in the description that would warrant such a kick in the mouth. I'm used to garlic, I have it constantly so there was something else that was amiss.  I pulled some of the cheese off and saw red pepper flakes mixed in.  So that was my only little blip.  Not wanting to make a big fuss and to let my husband enjoy his meal drama-free I dipped my pizza in the ranch (which I love to do, anyway) and drank my water and all turned out okay in the end.

Would we go back?  We plan on it.  :)

My yearly push cart hotdog

Aimee and I were on our way home from her job....she was not feeling well and I had the car to go to a few appointments in the morning. Well I was kinda hungry and en route to our home I scoped out a hotdog truck.Usually I stay away from pushcart hotdogs, but I haven't had one in over a year and my hope was that it would be like I remembered when I was a kid.

I was kinda disappointed.; The hotdog was a Sabrett...a boiled hotdog. It was a natural casing hotdog....that was a good thing.  It went downhill from there.  The bun was kinda hard and the actual hotdog was mushy.  No snap as a natural casing hotdog should have.   A real letdown.  I guess I will stick to grilling my own.

The journey begins

Hello everyone!
Kevin here.  This is my intro post to Aimee and my new blog.  Here we will share the highs and lows of our culinary journey through life.  I will post occasionally, Aimee will post occasionally. Hope everyone enjoys reading about our adventures!
